Hi again! So, while I was researching this fascinating piece on how long to microwave a peep, I happened upon the concept of “Peeps Jousting” and immediately had to try it. I love all the differently-flavored Peeps that come out every year and can’t wait to try all of them, so I thought it would be fitting to set up a Peeps joust for each of the specialty flavors. Because when you think about it, this is a totally scientific way to see which strangely-flavored Peep is ACTUALLY superior, rather than just doing multiple taste tests and arguing amongst your friends.
Here’s where I’m at with this so far:
In case you think I’m just weird (which I totally am, don’t get me wrong), I started doing this because Peeps are actually much better if you microwave them a little bit before eating them.
No, for real! 60 seconds at 50% power is the right number for this, and you’ll find that microwaving them a little makes them delightfully soft and brings the flavors out. This is especially true of flavors that would logically taste better hot, like Churro and Rice Krispie Treat, but also works for the cold-themed flavors like cotton candy and watermelon.
