I don't know why I've been thinking about Oreo cookies lately, but I saw this sign in a gas station the other day and was mildly amused.   Since when is "Oreo and coffee" a classic combo?  Did that happen while we weren't looking?   I kind of think something has to be known and around in the public consciousness in order to be a "classic," don't you?

2013-05-28 11.21.06I always thought that the brand promise of Oreo was "cookies and milk are delicious," right? or "ice cream and Oreo cookies are delicious," and it mostly appealed to kids (and adults who know they should probably not be eating Oreos because that is wasting calories and now they have to get back on the treadmill.  I guess it's cool that they are trying to extend the brand, but– "Oreo cookies go great with coffee," I don't know if I'm buying.

I was about to say that I don't know anyone at Nabisco so I can't ever find out if this experiment is successful, but when I went on the Oreo Cookie website to see if Nabisco still owned them, I discovered that Oreo Cookie is now held by an intenational conglomerate called "Mondelez," which I'm sorry, totally sounds like the name of a holding company in a James Bond movie or an episode of Seinfeld.

Perhaps it is the brainchild of someone at the Mondelez Corporation (which I'm absolutely certain is located inside a mountain) who came up with this strange brand crossover.   As the target audience for this, I would like to say:  no Mondelez, I do not want an Oreo cookie with coffee.   Dunking an Oreo in coffee sounds like it would ruin both the cookie and the coffee, and also– I am too old to be eating Oreo cookies in the middle of the day, so no, I would not consider this to be a "classic combo," but thanks.

Also, if you're curious and arrived here for strictly utilitarian purposes (that is, Oreo nutrition facts), I do happen to have the nutritional information for Oreo Cookies right here.  3 cookies for 160 calories, and then get right back on that treadmill.   Yes, that does say "44 servings," because I buy a giant box of Oreo Cookies at Costco and eat them for a whole year.  Don't hate.

Don't kid yourself– Oreos are not great for you, and that middle part is probably sugar-flavored lard.  But, come on– everything in moderation, right??
