You guys! Did you
know that this whole “writing every single day” thing makes you more productive
in all other areas of your life?
It’s true! When you
have to put focused attention into something every day, for some reason, this
makes you want to whip other areas of your life into shape. Case in point: I have cleaned a ton of stuff out of my
office/ file cabinets, sold some stuff on Amazon and eBay, retrieved some video
from an old photo, and started adding that as well as new videos to my YouTube
Channel.
Here is my first effort at an instructional video. I’m sure this never happens to you, but
almost every day, I get a “how do you do this/ that/ the other thing” email
from someone, and this year I thought—“Hey, every time I answer one of those
questions, I’m going to make a video about it!”
This was kind of easier said than done. I checked out about five “screen capture”
options to try to get my head around how to actually record things I was doing
on my computer, and the one I’ve found that I like the most so far is
ScreenFlow, although I also hear good things about Camtasia and may investigate
to see if I like that one better when I feel like I am actually instructing
rather than just blathering on about how I would do something, while being
painfully aware that I am recording myself, and that, since I am not the Voice
of God, I am going to listen back to my own voice and want to poke my own eyes
out.
Here’s that video, in case you were super curious about how
to delete your Facebook account. A fair number of people ask me about this (most of them authors who are ready to throw their computers out the window) and it's the simplest answer, so I started here. I even taught myself a little editing and learned how to add an "Annotation" to the end of a video using YouTube!
Now that I got the first one out of the way, I also
have “How to Make a Facebook Fan Page,” How to Use the BPS Security Plugin in
Wordpress,” and “How to Self-Publish a Book in Amazon” on my list, and of
course, if you have a question about something, feel free to ask me so that I
can make an instructional video (if in fact I have any knowledge).
It’s that way for everyone, right? You hear your own voice, and you’re like “I
DON’T SOUND LIKE THAT.” Why is
that? Maybe I’ll have to investigate
that and make an instructional video about it.
You’ll notice I have also added some awesome videos of
Stephan playing music—much more entertaining than my Facebook tutorial!
Oh, also? We also have another “instructional animated video” project in the works that does involve the Voice of God, but we are trying to have more episodes of that done before rolling it out, so I will maybe tell you about that one next weel (although you can see a sample if you watch the whole "Delete Your Facebook" video, because it's linked from the annotation at the end– SO CLEVER!)
All in all, though, may I highly recommend giving yourself a
big ol’ weird project like “writing every single day of 2013?” It really does blow the cobwebs right out of
all areas of your life.
