OK, I thought I would just go ahead and include you in the other thing I’ve been working on, which has clearly been keeping me from my Funny Strange-ness.

It’s books, people.  Namely, I have been doing a ton of consulting lately with authors, publishing houses, agents, and just about everyone else on the planet on HOW TO SELL MORE BOOKS, how to get yourself out there if you’re an author, what exactly to do with social media, etc, etc etc.    It’s awesome, and I’m excited to help people get the word out about their books.

However, you would be surprised at just how far down the digital media rabbit hole you can go with each one of these topics!  One question about SEO leads to another question about WordPress plugins which leads to another question about proper use of social media….and then it’s 11 at night and I haven’t had dinner, and I'm mad at myself because I only wrote 500 words.

So—I know a lot of the people who read this blog are writers, and I would like to ask you some questions if that’s ok, because it will help me know that I'm on the right track with this guide.   If you’re getting this post as an email, feel free to hit “Reply,” or leave your answers as comments, or Tweet them to me, or Facebook message me, or message me on LinkedIn, or….you get the picture.   I promise that soon I will have this project under control and will return to my regular schedule of making fun of potato chip names and wondering why, exactly, Subway is now making a pulled-pork sandwich when they’re supposed to be a healthy alternative to fast food.

Here’s the deal:  I am trying to make a “Marketing for Authors” guide that’s as comprehensive as possible without being overwhelming, and so I would really like to know from authors (whether you’re self-published, traditionally published, or not yet published, doesn’t really matter):

–How are you using the internet to help promote yourself as an author?

–If you’re not using the internet (like, a website or social media), why not?

–Is there something else that’s holding you back, like the fact that you haven’t finished your book, or you’re stumped trying to find a publisher, or Twitter freaks you out?

Actually, I very much enjoy the question “Is there anything else you’re not telling me?” in traditional life as well, so if you’d like to just reply with some random facts about yourself, that would be ok too.  You know how I love my random factoids!

Tell me everything!  Leave out nothing.
