Pixies “Bagboy” and Patton Oswalt: the Hot Pocket Connection

I don't know if you've heard, but the Pixies have a new song out (the first one in nine years!).   I want to play it here for you today because I think it's wonderfully obtuse and Pixies-esque.

In case you don't know about the Pixies, and that's fine because I know that some of you are younger than others) the Pixies are a band that was a band that was really popular in the eighties and nineties and they are fronted by a guy named Frank Black.  Kim Deal (from the Breeders) was in the Pixies, but oddly, it was just announced that she's now left the band.

Here is one of their more famous tracks, with Kim Deal on it. Let us listen and appreciate some classic Black Francis screamage, shall we?

Here is the new track, "Bagboy":

Awesome. You have to love Frank Black for lyrics like "Picked up from dead things that you licked." Frank Black is just weird and does not care what you think, and that's what I like about him.

The other thing that I think is funny about this song is that and I am sure you know that Frank Black is a   big boned guy and the way that he is saying"BAGBOY" is very funny to me.  I don't know if he's doing this on purpose but he sounds exactly like what Patton Oswalt would call "fat voice."

Here is a segment where Oswalt is talking all about this voice.   This clip has a bunch of swear words in it and is totally offensive to overweight people, I'm just going to warn you.  Just….don't play it at work, ok?

When you're done with this, go back up and listen to "Bagboy" again, and then laugh with me about how Frank Black is just totally doing a "Hot Pockets fat voice" when he says "BAGBOY!"
All kidding aside, I love the Pixies and you should too. They are awesome and I'm glad they're making music again.
