I took this photo last year– the sign has since been taken down, though I'm assuming you can still get this screamin' deal at Costco if you're so inclined.
Here's the thing– I'm sure that IS a really good deal for a big ol' diamond ring, but I feel like, if you're going to drop 300 large on a diamond, do you really want to do it in a membership warehouse right next to the "Call to Pick Up Pizza" phone and the discount hemorrhoid medicine? You know I love Costco, but this might be a little overreaching for them. I go there for discount sparkling water and granola bars, not for life-changing jewelry purchases.
Also, you'll notice that the sign says "Available on Costco.com." Um….does that mean I have to buy this huge diamond on their website? Who has a credit card that will even hold $329,999, and also, even if you are Mark Cuban and you do have a million-dollar credit card limit, doesn't the HEAD of the fraud department get involved when you try to pay for this online? I feel like credit card companies are cracking down so much these days, you have to call them before you make any big purchase (like over $2,000). Case in point: we tried to buy a MacBook at the Apple store a couple of years ago, and our credit card company insisted on talking to us in person on the number they had on file for us before they would authorize the charge. In the meantime, we stood there, feeling mortified, while everyone stared at us like we were shoplifters. It was a rude awakening for sure.
So– cut to trying to buy a $300,000 + piece of jewelry online. I feel like the fraud department would come to your house with a pre-printed warrant the minute you hit the "Buy" button on this sucker, and that you wouldn't be able to use your credit card for a week, and that the whole thing would be so much f-ing paperwork, you would wish you just went with a regular jeweler, even if you had to shell out the extra money.
Which leads me to my final point– anyone for whom this is not an issue (like my Mark Cuban example) is not going to even be IN Costco, so this sign is pointless. Notice that the sign says "ONLY ONE IN STOCK." They made a whole sign for one piece of jewelry that is going to be nearly impossible to purchase? This is strange to me.
