Remember when I said I was doing a marathon in 2011? Here's where I am with that, in case you are wondering.
I am happy to report that I got a book on marathon training, read it, and successfully managed to run a practice half-marathon two weekends ago, and to my surprise, I was hardly sore the next day. I've noticed that my endurance is way up– I never even thought I could run that far, so that's a personal victory for me. Oh, and let me brag about my awesomely fast husband, who is also training, and who ran the practice half in LESS THAN TWO HOURS, dudes.
However. Let's talk about my knees, shall we?
Oh my God, my knees are killing me. Is that normal? Because frankly, you guys, I am all for hard exercise and muscle soreness and setting awesome goals and reaching them, but a deep ache in the inside of my knees, days later, while I am sitting at my computer? Not good.
And then, my left knee started going "click" when I straightened it out all the way, and that's when I started to seriously reconsider this marathon running business.
I believe I mentioned that I have never been much of a runner, so I can't believe I even have what seems like a sports injury. At this point I have not been running that much because I'm a little concerned about the knee pain, to be honest. I have returned to my 4-5 miles per day of uphill walking, which I like so, SO much better.
Is it weird that I am considering walking a marathon because I want to save my knees? I don't consider myself the kind of person who doesn't finish things, but at the same time, I am more the kind of person who doesn't want to risk a more permanent-type sports injury just so I can boneheadedly claim "I ran a marathon!"
So–is it still cool to do a marathon if you fast-walk it to save your joints? Because my awesome friend Shannon says it is, so I am choosing to feel good about that. I love walking so much, I could walk from morning till night (and sometimes I have!).
In other news, I am still buried in work, the dog is mad at me because he pulled a muscle and I am forcing him to rest it because he is an OLD MAN, I'm going on a business trip to LA next month, and spring has finally sprung on the east coast!
