I saw another thing that absolutely no one needs over the weekend, and actually thought it was silly enough to write a single post about it rather than saving it for a list.
Or, maybe I just need a little more information, because I’m not really understanding the purpose of this particular product. Can someone tell me a little more about why I would 3D glasses for my iPhone? Why….just why would I need this? In what context would I be using this function? Would I be, like, in a business meeting, and then I would suddenly put on 3D glasses to look at my phone? I'm assuming this is a product geared toward adults since I am seeing it advertised at night during tv programming, but– does this not look like one of those ViewFinders we had as kids? Why would this be a necessary part of your life as an adult?
Not for nothing, it does seem like if this was something you wanted to do, you could accomplish it much more economically by simply buying the My3D app on your phone, then looking at it through a cheapy pair of 3D glasses like these $2.79 gems. See? I just saved you $33.
Maybe it’s going to make me sound old, but dude, my phone already does so many things! I am continually impressed and blown away by how cool it is, and how lucky I am to live in an era where Moore’s Law totally applies, and things get smaller and faster and more neato every single year. That said, I can’t even think of a context in which I would like to see things in my phone in 3D. Isn’t this kind of an indicator that we need to tone it down a little bit as a culture? I mean, I still think my phone is the coolest think ever, despite the fact that it continues to drop calls EVERY SINGLE DAY (I’m looking at you, AT& T). But, even when I have the free block of time to switch my service over to Verizon (don’t even get me started, in order to completely switch carriers but keep the same numbers, which we have to do because we’ve had the same numbers for 7+ years, you have to take a few days off and get jumped out of AT &T like you’re in a girl gang)—even when we make the switch, I’m still sticking with the iPhone, and I kid, you not, every single day I go “wow, I’m so glad I can remember back to when we didn’t have the internet, so I can appreciate it and think about how cool it is.”
So, don’t get me wrong—I totally appreciate the innovation. But, if we’re going to get all sci-fi, you know what would be cool?
Shazam for faces.
You know—where you’ve seen someone before but you can’t remember where, so instead you just hold your iPhone up to their face, and then Shazam performs a comparative search against every other face, and then tells you who that is.
That would be way more useful than being able to see your phone in 3D, right? I’m just saying. Oh, and if they could make Face Shazam, could they also make it for shoes and purses, so basically you could just see someone with cute shoes, and then Shoe Shazam would tell you where you could get those shoes?
I don’t know why Apple doesn’t just ask me every time they’re going to make something new. Doesn’t that sound like it would be a good idea?
