Yes, yes, I know– I mysteriously skipped a week of Funny Strange, and really that's just strange, not really funny.
Here's the thing, though– a week ago yesterday (so, Sunday before last), I smashed the holy bejeesus (yes, that is a medical term) out of one of my fingers with an 8 pound weight. So much for trying to be healthy and keep your bone density up, right? What kind of positive reinforcement is that?
Anyway, I actually thought my finger was broken for a minute there, but it was for sure bright purple and looked like an olive, and so I was trying not to overuse it, which when you have clients and work and a bunch of stuff to do and "SmashFinger" is located on your right hand and you're actually right handed and alot of your work is based in typing on a keyboard, is no easy task.
Frankly, SmashFinger is still swollen and still hurts a little bit, and it keeps going numb when I use it too much, but I'm 99% sure it's not broken. Also, I don't really like getting bad news, so I try not to go to the doctor unless I have a real problem. On a side note, MAN am I lucky, because the smash happened about an eighth of an inch from the knuckle, so it could have been so much worse.
Anyhow, now the bruising is mostly gone, I'm just left with swelling and a dull ache. So, I have lots of notes on blog posts I am thinking about, and I will be catching up on those as SmashFinger allows. This photo shows the finger turning half purple as all the blood gets reabsorbed (at least that's my professional medical opinion– is there a doctor in the house?).
Speaking of things that have no relation to other things, yesterday we went to Massachusetts to see Yo Yo Ma play at the Tanglewood Music Festival. How awesome is that? I have to say, until you spend time on the east coast, you really can't get a good mental picture of just how close all the states are to each other. Being from California (where you could drive four or five hours in each direction and still be in California) this is actually a new thing, and I think it's really interesting!
Here is a photo of the lawn at Tanglewood– you can just imagine the sounds of Yo Yo Ma's cello wafting through the air and the breeze blowing. It was a wonderful day, and I didn't participate in any activities that would anger the SmashFinger, so we'll hope it keeps healing at a normal pace and that I'm back in the groove soon.
