Happy Thanksgiving, or “I Have Been Neglecting You”
Yes, it's true, I haven't posted in a week. OMG! But, if you only knew about the busyness! The driving! The DRIVING! I think I have talked to more people on the phone (a thing I had almost stopped doing) in the past week than the rest of the year, simply because I like to talk on the phone while I'm driving.
Why so much driving, you ask? Well, here's the deal. Remember the surgery, and the hotel with the flies in it, and the yelling, and the refund? Well, that was the beginning of what we'll now call "The Busy Period." After that, Stephan's mom got one of those crazy post-operative hospital infections, and she had to go back into the hospital (she's doing better now, but she's still on 24-hour a day antibiotics, if this gives you any indication of what a whopper of an infection it was/ is). So, we were back in L.A. for a few days, then we decided to head back up to the Carmel area to help out with this, since we already were going to be here for Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, having made that decision, we packed up and got everything ready, and took off again. Only everything we needed wouldn't fit in the two cars along with the arthritic dog who needs the whole back seat, so I left him at the dog daycare, drove up to Carmel, stayed a few days, drove to a meeting in San Francisco and back for a meeting (+120 miles each way), then drove BACK to LA to pick him up.
In case you're keeping track, that's 300 miles + 300 miles + 240 miles +300 miles + millions of cellphone minutes. AT & T loves me now. By the way, AT & T really needs to improve their cellphone tower service on the 5 freeway. Just in case you work there. Also, did I mention how much I LOVE MY PRIUS? Yes I do.
So, now I'm back in LA and I've got the dog and some stuff I forgot, but then I have to go down to San Diego to visit my grandmother and some other family members before Thanksgiving. So, Sunday I put the dog in the back of the car and we drive down there, and then we drive back. At midnight. While listening to public radio because no one is awake to talk to me on the phone at midnight.
150 miles + 150 miles (in one day, good thing the dog really likes sleeping in the car. Yes, I left water for him).
The next day I leave again to drive back to Carmel (+300 miles), and while I'm on the way out of town I get stuck in a traffic jam so crazy, by the time I actually see the cause, I am not kidding, it involves A GIANT CRANE which I assume is for the purpose of pulling one truck off of another one, right? Finally I got past it and got back to Carmel, but not until midnight on Monday. Again with the midnight!
Fortunately I don't know how to cook, so I will be catching up on work and blog posts while Stephan and his family ply me with turkey and key lime pie. One thing I will not be doing this Thanksgiving weekend?
Driving. I will not be doing any driving.
And Happy Thanksgiving to you!
